Espurna Teatre

Emerging documentary theater company

Our mission

Our philosophy

The company ESPURNA TEATRE is a company made up entirely of women (Cristina Sales, Ana Nicolas and Maria Villarejo) that was born in 2023 as a result of the process of creating the work TRAMPANTOJO, or the story of the history of Spain.

It is a newly created company that focuses its interest on social and political issues, always having our own history as a starting point. To do this, we rely on the diversity of languages in our productions (singing, music, circus, physical theatre, dance...), through which we want to reach the public in different ways. Our works always start from a feminist framework from which to give the production a gender perspective. We drink from references such as the Galician social theater company Chévere, the first creations of Angélica Liddell, the biotheatre of Lola Arias or the documentary theater of the company La conquesta del Pol Sud.

How are our works?

At an artistic level, it focuses on the promotion, positioning and echo of the stage fusion of different dance disciplines: jazz dance, clappé and commercial dance.

our style

Professional contemporary dance and creation company with a long history, created in 1994, under the artistic and choreographic direction of Alicia Soto.

The company has experienced a constant evolution, developing very personal scenic forms far removed from the prevailing currents. Dance-theatre creations for theaters in the Italian style, from dance in the street, up to multimedia and performance for non-conventional spaces. More than 29 shows have been staged, in large, medium and small format, video creations and video dance.

Composed by a multidisciplinary team of artists, the company is a meeting place and research, in a transdisciplinary artistic creation
